Our Brands

We continually search for the most improved, low-input, climate-resilient vegetative turfgrasses on the planet.
These brands encompass our results.

From the wind-swept turf grass plots of Enid, Oklahoma rises a new successor in cold-tolerant vegetative bermudagrass: IronCutter! IronCutter is the result of a 10-year research and breeding partnership from the legendary turf and forage breeder Dr. Charles Taliaferro (breeder of vegetative bermudagrass Patriot, Latitude 36, and Northbridge), Johnston Seed Co., and exclusive marketer MVS Licensing. IronCutter entered the National Turf Evaluation Program’s (NTEP) 2013 Bermudagrass Trial as JSC-2-21-18-V, where it emerged as an ideal choice for turf managers seeking better all-around consistency and the highest turf grass quality across the entire reach of bermudagrass’s growing zones.

Gateway (NTEP Entry Code ZOYSIU) produces the least amount of seed heads of any commercial cultivar on the market. This exceptional characteristic along with its ability to perform at a broad range of cutting heights makes it the perfect all purpose zoysiagrass for your needs—from greens to home lawn and professional landscaping. Aggressive recovery paired with its need for less inputs, allows it to bounce back in high traffic situations making it applicable in the sports field arena. Bred to withstand cold with parents selected from Eastern Kansas, this southern Illinois University cultivar boasts a stable, uniform pedigree that consistently performs in the top LDS group.

With a unique heritage pointing back to collections from South Africa, Durban Seashore Paspalum improves performance in colder and more drought-prone environments than previous paspalum collections. Durban Seashore paspalum is the hardiest seashore paspalum on the market, making it perfect for tropical and sub-tropical climates. Its deep root system allows it to withstand extended periods of dry conditions, reducing the need for excessive watering. This cultivar is naturally resistant to common turfgrass diseases and pests, ensuring healthy and vibrant lawns. Durban Seashore Paspalum boasts a lush, emerald-green color and high density, reduced seed heads, and with uniform texture that will enhance sports fields, golf courses, and landscapes!

Brand Testimonials

My observations are that Gateway (ZoySIU in NTEP trials) is superior at initiating spring green up at short clipping heights, earlier than Meyer. Grow-out after June planting of plugs on 18-inch centers of Gateway at SelecTurf show it establishing to more than 95% cover before winter. Its vertical blades are so narrow and tightly proximate at a 1-inch clip it appears like a thickly bristled brush. Stolons growing from sprigs and plugs spread out to 6” quickly, and leaf blades become longer as vertical shoot growth begins from the tightly packed nodes.

We have had Gateway zoysia grass on our farm in a test plot for four years now. The grass is gone three full winters without any winter kill or die back. We’re finding that it can be a great product that needs very little inputs very little mowing and no irrigation. We irrigated it in for three weeks and have not irrigated, fertilized, or mowed, since the initial sod watering.
